Church Relations Committee Relationships with churches are vital to the success of Habitat-Apopka and churches are major contributors. Partnerships are made with both small and large churches in the area to procure volunteers and monetary donations for Habitat-Apopka, often by sponsoring homes or parts of projects. This committee should consist of people who are energetic, enthusiastic, and will seek out church partners and strengthen our interactions. Development Committee Members solicit financial support for Habitat-Apopka from corporations, individuals, civic groups, churches, and foundations. This is a hands-on committee whose members go into the community to raise funds. The objective is to develop sustained giving as a means to eliminate sub-standard housing. Family Selection Committee Members screen prospective applicants whose credit history has been approved to find those who will become partners with Habitat-Apopka. The committee explains the affiliate's policies and procedures to the applicant. Then a member of the committee visits each applicant's home to observe and report the conditions of the applicant's housing to the committee. The committee then makes the final recommendation as to whether or not to accept the applicant. Family Support Committee Members mentor the partner families through the "sweat equity" process and through their first year in their new home. Each homeowner is assigned to a committee member. The committee member offers support and friendship, keeps the family on track, and is a resource for the family through this time of change. This committee is always in need of caring, problem-solving members to facilitate this transition period. Land Acquisition Committee Habitat-Apopka is always in need of more land. We require a strong committee of volunteers who have interest and expertise in finding land and have the ability to follow through with the deal. Prior knowledge of real estate, law, etc. is helpful but not essential. We are specifically looking for plots of land 5-10 acres. Construction Committee Members discuss the progress of the homes under construction, and new members learn skills for the construction of homes. Each committee member has the potential to become a construction crew leader. Crew leaders are asked to be on the work site on Saturdays from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ReStore Committee members assist with oversight for the ReStore and its related volunteer recruitment, donations, pricing, merchandising and sales. Development Members assist with planning and implementing all fundraising events and assist in coordinating individual and corporate donor development. Publicity Committee members assist with all media relations, newsletter production and publishing and editing other collateral materials.
