Do you qualify for a habitat home?
There are three main qualifications that individuals and families must meet in order to be eligible to become a Habitat-Apopka homeowner:
1. Need for Housing
- Having the desire for homeownership
- Living in overcrowded housing
- Living in substandard housing
- Being a resident of public housing
- Being unable to secure adequate housing through the private market
2. Ability to Pay
- Individuals and families must fall within a certain income range.
- Applicants must meet certain debt and credit requirements in three categories:
- Delinquent debt
- Outstanding debt
- Credit score
- If applicants have declared bankruptcy, they must wait 2 years after being discharged and establishing good credit to apply for a Habitat house.
3. Willingness to Partner
- Applicants must be willing to perform at least 500 sweat equity (volunteer) hours per couple or 350 hours per single head of household.
- Applicants must have lived or worked in northwest Orange County (Apopka, Zellwood, Tangerine) for the last year.
- Applicants must have a commitment to a drug-free community.
