Do you qualify for a habitat home?

There are three main qualifications that individuals and families must meet in order to be eligible to become a Habitat-Apopka homeowner:

1. Need for Housing 

  • Having the desire for homeownership
  • Living in overcrowded housing
  • Living in substandard housing
  • Being a resident of public housing
  • Being unable to secure adequate housing through the private market

2. Ability to Pay

  • Individuals and families must fall within a certain income range.
  • Applicants must meet certain debt and credit requirements in three categories:
    • Delinquent debt
    • Outstanding debt
    • Credit score
  • If applicants have declared bankruptcy, they must wait 2 years after being discharged and establishing good credit to apply for a Habitat house.

3. Willingness to Partner

  • Applicants must be willing to perform at least 500 sweat equity (volunteer) hours per couple or 350 hours per single head of household. 
  • Applicants must have lived or worked in northwest Orange County (Apopka, Zellwood, Tangerine) for the last year.
  • Applicants must have a commitment to a drug-free community.
