Habitat for Humanity’s car donation programCar donations can help a family within your local community build a house and the hope of a better life! By donating a car to Habitat’s Cars for Homes™ car donation program, you help the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Apopka build houses in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable shelter. It is quick and easy to donate cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles, construction equipment or other vehicles — running or not! Plus, when you donate your car, your vehicle donation may be eligible for tax deduction purposes if you itemize. (Consult the IRS or your tax adviser for details.) Recycle junk cars into decent, affordable housing for familiesDid you know that the automobile is the most heavily recycled consumer product? Each year the steel industry recycles more than 14 million tons of steel from junk cars and end-of-life vehicles. This is equivalent to nearly 13.5 million new automobiles!
Junk cars are typically hauled to auto salvage yards, where reusable car parts are removed along with other items, like batteries, tires and fluids. Recycled automobiles enter the shredding process in which iron and steel are magnetically separated from the other materials and salvaged. Reclaimed iron and steel is shipped to be recycled to produce new steel.
The Steel Recycling Institute reports that every year, the steel industry recycles autos at a rate near or above 100 percent, saving the equivalent of enough energy to power about 18 million households!
By donating a junk car to Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes™ car donation program, you help save energy and natural resources with the added benefit of supporting your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate’s efforts to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness within your community. How it Works
Donating a car and processing your car donation: - Car donations are processed by Advanced Remarketing Services, Inc., Habitat for Humanity International’s authorized national agent.
- All types of vehicles are accepted. You can donate vehicles—including automobiles, trucks, RVs, boats, airplanes, and farm and construction equipment—running or not!
- Donors provide information and answer questions about the vehicle they wish to donate, including the make, model, vehicle identification number and current mileage.
- Most whole vehicles with proper title information are accepted, unless the costs of processing and towing fees exceed the auction value of the vehicle. In that case, it will not be accepted.
- After acceptance of the car donation, donors are provided instructions for processing the vehicle’s title. Assistance is also available if the vehicle’s title cannot be located. At the end of the online vehicle donation system, donors can print forms to complete the process.
- Arrangements are then made to have the title processed, and the donor is contacted to coordinate vehicle and key pickup by a licensed and insured member of Advanced Remarketing Service’s network of service providers.
- The vehicle donation is processed and sold on behalf of Habitat for Humanity.
- Donors receive an acknowledgement letter thanking them for their support and providing automobile donation information. This letter may be used as a receipt for tax deduction purposes, if the donor itemizes deductions.
Helping end poverty housing Net proceeds generated from your car donation are directed to your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate and worldwide—through the affiliate tithe—to help eliminate poverty housing and homelessness around the world.
